Personal Still Life

For this still life we were to choose a subject matter that was important to us. Unlike other still lives however, we were allowed to have full illustrative freedom, and did not have to draw it as we saw it. I chose to mostly draw as I saw but added my own flare to the illustration. It is painted in watercolor, and I only used 3 main colors; blue, orange, and green. Every other color was made from a combination of those colors. White highlights were added at the end to make the bird’s eyes stand out.

Featured, are three different angles of a bird figurine to represent myself and my two siblings, various coffee cups to represent my energy (one of which is the Starbucks travel series from Orlando, FL, where I found my love for design), two of my graphic’s pieces, and a toy alligator from Haiti for my love of reptiles and all things scaly. I chose my 3 colors to not only challenge myself and see if I could work with a limited color pallet, but because those 3 colors reminded me of my home in south Florida.
